Flying First Class on Singapore Airlines ruined her life. Really. See how

You’re at 35,000 feet, crunched up in a foetal position attempting to shut out with pillows and many copies of the inflight magazine the crescendo of the snore artist in the next seat. You wish you could detach your legs below the knees. And maybe stow them away until when you might need them again to go wait in line before the wakeful crowds start jamming the aisles to the lavatory. You wish your seat would recline a little more. And, most of all, you wish you could ionize that kid that’s been watching movies all night and kicking the back of your seat…

Have a nice flight.

That last part? Not about the kid, about the nice flight. That’s exactly the kind of gift you get when, surprise-surprise, you are upgraded to First Class on Singapore Airlines

Yahoo Travel Editor Paula Froelich found herself spirited into her own private cabin, served champagne, and stretching blissed out on a full-length bed. And, of course, taking home plenty of designer goodies.

It was nice, she says, maybe too nice.

And, just so that you know, it doesn’t happen to everyone. But, then again, it just might happen to you.

• CBN has asked officials to undertake education and training programmes for tribals to equip them with the know-how to compete with their peers from other states and create a brand image for AP regarding its coffee production.

WASTE OR RESOURCE? INDIGENOUS USES OF COW DUNG AND URINE IN RURAL INDIA

The respect and regard paid to cows in India is well known, but the importance to rural Indians of the dung and urine of this sacred animal is often ignored. This presentation will describe the many indigenous uses of cow dung and urine as a resource in rural India.

Cow dung is used as a cooking fuel; sanitizing cleanser; construction material, insulation, and waterproofing for walls and floors in rural houses; a cultural symbol in religious worship; the raw-material for producing organic compost and generating electricity. The urine of cows is considered an elixir of life and is used as a natural remedy for liver and heart conditions as well as for enhancing mental and physical strength and increasing longevity. The urine of a cow is said to balance bile, mucous, and airs, which cause disease when they are not in balance. The utilization of cow dung and urine is a perfect example of sustainable living.

An understanding of the use of cow dung and urine by the rural Indian population can illustrate the indigenous knowledge associated with these materials and can enable entrepreneurs to develop dung and urine as alternative sources of materials for housing construction and electricity generation as well as cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuels and medicines. Even the ash formed from the burning of dung as a fuel can be used as a cleaning agent for household utensils or used as a fertilizer without causing any negative impact to the growing crops. Clearly, the use of cow dung and urine as indigenous resources provides a stark contrast to the hi-tech advancement occurring in modern day India.

As a Fulbright Fellow at Penn State, he is working on Waste Management in the School of Hospitality Management. His interest in waste management and his roots in the rural Indian state of Uttar Pradesh encouraged him to share his thoughts on the indigenous knowledge associated with the use of bovine waste as an invaluable resource in his native country.

Motorola Is About To Release An Android Phone With Super-Long Battery Life, And Here's What It Looks Like

Motorola and Verizon are expected to unveil a new Droid phone on Tuesday, but we may already have a clear idea of what it will look like.
The Twitter account Moto Firmware (which is not affiliated with Motorola) has just posted a new set of images that reportedly show Motorola's new Droid Turbo in its retail packaging (via Android Police). Based on the photos, it seems as if the new Droid will look a lot like the second-generation Moto X and Nexus 6.

The Droid Turbo appears to feature a body that is rounder than that of both the current Droid Maxx and Droid Razr M. It's hard to tell exactly how large the phone is, but because there are virtually no bezels around its screen we can expect the display to be fairly big.

The phone's most impressive feature, however, is expected to be its battery life. If the reports are accurate, the device's 3,900 mAh battery should be able to last 48 hours on a single charge. If that's the case, the Droid Turbo will most likely be marketed as Motorola's follow-up to the Droid Maxx phone, which comes with a 3,500 mAh battery.

Here's a leaked photo of the new Droid Turbo compared with last year's Droid Maxx.

Moto Firmware/ Verizon

The Droid Turbo is also expected to come with a super-sharp 2560 x 1440 resolution screen, a 21-megapixel camera, and a faster processor than that of its predecessor.

Verizon and Motorola will officially unveil the phone on Tuesday, and the Droid Turbo is rumored to go on sale as early as Oct. 30.

waiting for APSRTC's city services

Despite being part of the much-touted capital region of Andhra Pradesh, Guntur is still waiting for APSRTC's city services. The lack of state transport facility has irked denizens, who point out that smaller towns such as Ongole will have RTC services up and running from Vijayadasami, following transport minister Sidda Raghava Rao's recent announcement.

"The APSRTC management has conveniently ignored the demand for a city bus service in Guntur, but bowed to political pressure and introduced it in Ongole," said P Mastan Rao, a college lecturer.

The transport corporation has been plying city services in two big cities of AP - Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam - apart from Hyderabad and Warangal in Telangana. Ongole is a surprise addition to the elite club. "Guntur is more deserving of an intra-city public transport facility. It should get both metro rail connectivity and city bus services as it forms part of the state capital region. Since metro rail is not being taken up as an inter-city project due to its high cost, APSRTC should at least introduce city buses," said TDP leader Mannava Subba Rao.

In fact, APSRTC had planned city services about six years ago when Congress heavyweight from the district, Kanna Lakshminarayana, handled the transport portfolio. But the plans did not materialize due to the opposition from the APSRTC management, which cited losses incurred by city services in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

When asked, APSRTC regional manager PV Rama Rao said, "We plan to introduce some city services if we get new buses under the JNNURM programme. Although we have requested 60 buses, there is no word from the government as yet."

Guntur has a population in excess of eight lakh and has an estimated floating population of about one lakh. Thousands of employees, vendors, daily wagers and students shuttle between the city and neighbouring areas such as Perecherla, Nallapadu, Reddipalem, Pedakakani, Jonnalagadda, Uppalapadu, Chebrolu, Narakoduru and Budampadu. Incidentally, 70 per cent of VGTM Urban Development Authority falls in Guntur district. But with the lack of a city bus service, people depend on autos and seven-seater vehicles to commute.

Seemandhra Film Chamber opens at Guntur

In view of the state bifurcation, the Telugu film industry has officially spilt into two, with the Seemandhra Film Chamber of Commerce being unveiled at Tadepalle in Guntur district recently. This, according to the producers and directors, will help solve the industry issues better. The demand for the renaming of the current chamber as the Telangana one, was also made some months ago.

Actor Dileep Raja, in his statement to the press said, "Conflicts are common within an industry. We shall resolve them as early as possible. We're sure that the capital city, Vijayawada and Guntur will benefit our films." The industry, otherwise at loggerheads, sans barriers put up a wonderful show of unity in coming to rescue the cyclone-affected Vizag recently.

Here Are All The Phones Confirmed To Get Google's Massive Android Update

Google Back in June, Google unveiled what's being called the biggest Android update yet. With Android 5.0, or "Lollipop," Google is adding a bunch of changes that are both physical and internal.
One of the biggest alterations will be the introduction of Material Design — a new design language that puts more of an emphasis on shadows and colors. There are a handful of under-the-hood improvements, too, such as Project Volta, which is a collection of back end enhancements meant to improve battery life.
But, unlike the iPhone, Android devices don't get major software updates all at the same time. It depends on which type of phone you have and which carrier you're on.

There are also tons of Android phones that are left out of major carrier updates too.

We still don't know exactly when Android 5.0 will be released for every phone, but here's a roundup of what we know so far.
Google
Google's Nexus 6 will come with Android 5.0 already installed, and both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 will receive the update too. Google hasn't announced when it will launch, but Google has reportedly given developers a date of Nov. 3, according to blog Android Police.
HTC
HTC's One M8 and previous-generation One M7 will both get Android 5.0 as well. Jeff Gordon, the company's global online communications manager, tweeted that both phones will get the upgrade within 90 days of the software's final release.
Motorola
Motorola announced last week that its first and second generation Moto X and Moto G will get Android 5.0, along with the Moto G LTE, Moto E, and Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini phones.
Samsung
Samsung hasn't made any official announcements regarding updates for its line of smartphones, but rumors suggest the Galaxy S5 will be able to upgrade come December. Samsung also teased an Android Lollipop update for its new Galaxy Note 4 via Twitter. It's likely that Samsung's other popular phones, such as the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, will also get the upgrade, but we haven't heard anything just yet.

best yoga exercises

Every woman wishes for long, healthy and shiny hair. But, the stress of the modern day lifestyle, ageing, unhealthy eating habits and non-existent fitness routine often takes a heavy toll on your health, including your hair. Well, let us tell you how you can relieve your stress, get in shape, and take care of your hair all at once. It is through yoga. Yes, you read it right! Yoga can help you get long and black locks. So, take a look at some yoga poses that are great for your hair.

Sirasasana (Head Stand)

This exercise involves balancing your entire body on your head. Yes, you read that right! You need to invert your body, with your head rest on the ground with the help of your hands. With regular practice, you should be able to do this effectively. It improves blood circulation in the scalp. It promotes hair growth as it helps to supply essential nutrients to your hair roots. Not to mention, this pose also ensures that you will have a fit and toned body.

Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand)

Lie down flat on your back and raise your legs upwards till your toes are pointing towards the ceiling. Use your head, neck and upper back to maintain the balance of your body. Also, keep your hands on the centre of your spine to provide support. This pose also increases blood flow to your scalp and nourishes the hair roots, thus preventing hair fall. It also improves the thyroid function and ensures healthy respiratory function.

Ustrasana (Camel Pose)

This one is relatively simple pose. It involves kneeling on the floor and bending your spine backwards until your hands touch your ankles. You need to hold this position for a few seconds. Keep your breathing normal. You need to exhale while coming back to the kneeling position. If you have a back injury, do not try this pose. This pose is good for those who are suffering from hair problems like hair breakage and thinning.

Pawanmuktasana (Wind Releasing Pose)

Lie down on your back and bring your knees towards your chest. Then hug your knees to your chest. Breathe out as you bring your knees to your chest, and breathe in as you come back to original position. It is great for improving digestion, which also has an impact on your hair. It cures constipation, which can adversely affect hair growth as well.

Vajrasana (Diamond Pose)

Just sit on the floor with your knees under your thighs. Keep your spine erect and place your hands on your upper thigh. Now, relax and breathe in and out deeply. This position is good for your digestive system. It thus promotes a healthy circulation of nutrient rich blood in your overall body. It also improves your body’s immunity to fight against various scalp infections. This pose can also be done immediately after eating.

Sasangasana (Rabbit Pose)

Sit with your knees on the floor, with your hips resting on your heels. Now place your hands behind and hold your heels. After this, bend the crown of your head slowly towards the ground. As your head touches the ground, lift your hips up. Inhale as you get in this pose. Hold the position for five counts and exhale as you come back to the starting position. This pose improves blood circulation to the scalp. It leaves your hair with a lustrous and healthy shine.

Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose)

In this pose lie down flat on your stomach. Place your palms on the floor in a way that they are parallel to your shoulders. Now put your weight on your elbows and palms and lift your chest up. Keep your legs and feet on floor. Hold this pose for at least 20-25 seconds. This pose improves digestion, heart-lung functioning, and also stimulates flow of oxygen-rich blood in body.

Pranayam

Pranayam is a breathing exercises that help in getting rid of stress and improving blood flow in the body. In Kapalbhati, slowly inhale followed by fast and jerky exhales. It improves blood circulation and brain functioning. It also helps your body to get rid of harmful toxins. Apart from this, you can try Naadi Shodhan Pranayam. In this, breathing is performed alternately from one nostril at a time. It helps people who have heart problems, asthma and stress. Stress is one of the biggest culprits behind hair loss and other hair problems.

Remember:

There is another yoga exercise, which is bit controversial yet quite popular for hair growth. It is Balayam. It boosts hair growth by rubbing finger nails. Diet is as important as an exercise regime. So, add foods to your diet that would help you get rid of your hair troubles. Increase your intake of iron, zinc, vitamins and proteins to boost your hair growth.

Avoid using harsh chemicals on your hair. Instead use natural products to boost healthy hair growth. Use combs and brushes very delicately. Regularly massage your scalp with essential oils like coconut or castor oil. Stay away from stress. Stress is a prime accuse behind hair loss.
With yoga exercises and above tips, get ready to flaunt black, shiny and healthy hair at all times.

The New Android Phone Coming To Verizon Has A Super Sharp Camera That Puts The iPhone To Shame

If you’ve taken a trip to your carrier’s brick and mortar store to buy a new phone in the past several years, chances are you probably haven’t come across any Sony smartphones. That’s because the company has largely been focusing its smartphone business on overseas markets like Europe and Japan. Now, it looks like that’s starting to change

Sony is debuting its first major smartphone for Verizon on Oct. 23 — the Xperia Z3v. It’s a spin on its recent Xperia Z3 flagship, which just launched on T-Mobile’s network last month. It comes with a 5.2-inch 1080p screen and features a glass rear panel that makes the back of the phone feel as slick as the touch screen. It'll cost $199 on a two-year contract. It'll cost approximately $680 without a contract.

It’s a nice phone, but Sony will have to offer a really compelling experience to compete with brands that are already incredibly popular in the US smartphone space, especially Apple and Samsung.

Sony hopes to do that in a couple of ways, mostly with the Z3v’s camera and ability to integrate with the PlayStation ecosystem. Not to mention, the Xperia Z3v is one of the few water resistant smartphones you can buy.

After spending about a week with the Xperia Z3v, here are my first impressions.
The Basics
Lisa Eadicicco
The Xperia Z3v is about the same size and weight as your average Android smartphone, and it runs on a quad-core Qualcomm processor. This chip, the Snapdragon 801, is fairly common among high-end Android phones.

The phone features a 5.2-inch 1080p screen and offers up to 32GB of storage space — although you can expand that to 128GB with a microSD card. There’s also 3GB of memory packed inside.

The Xperia Z3v’s true differentiator is its 20.7-megapixel main camera, which uses a sensor that’s significantly larger than most phones. The Galaxy S5, for example, uses a 16-megapixel sensor, while the iPhone 6 uses an 8-megapixel sensor. It’s also IP65 and IP68 certified, which means it’s resistant to dust and water. In fact, you can submerge it in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for 30 minutes without worrying about any damage.

Come November, you’ll also be able to stream content from your PlayStation 4 to the Xperia Z3v through Sony’s Remote Play feature.
How It Looks And Feels
Lisa Eadicicco
The Xperia Z3v’s glass-coated front and back make it look a bit more elegant that phones made of plastic. It’s sort of reminiscent of the iPhone 4 and 4s, but with a much larger screen, thinner bezels, and a slightly more angular design.

Since the phone is waterproof, all of the ports except for the headphone jack are sealed. This made it particularly difficult to locate the charging port, since it’s the only one that isn’t clearly labeled. Although this was a slight annoyance, it’s worth knowing the phone won’t malfunction after a little rain.

My main gripe about the Xperia Z3v’s design is how easily it picks up fingerprints. The back of the phone was covered in smudges within minutes of using it.
Using It
Lisa Eadicicco
The Sony Xperia runs on a skinned version of Android 4.4 KitKat that puts Sony’s apps and services at the forefront. When you look at the home screen, the first thing you’ll notice is Sony’s Walkman, Album, Movies, and PlayStation apps sitting in a row just above Google’s apps.

Sony also has a neat little menu just for arranging your apps. If you’re in the app drawer, you can swipe out from the left side of the screen to launch a menu that lets you reorganize apps depending on how often you use them, how recently they were downloaded, or alphabetical order.

This proved to be fairly useful in most cases, but there were a few instances in which I accidentally launched the menu when I was trying to browse the app drawer.

Overall, the interface is a little busy for my taste. Some of the home screens are cluttered with widgets that you may never use, such as a huge Amazon widget. These can easily be removed by pressing and holding any blank space on the home screen, but I still prefer the cleaner version of Android you’ll find on Motorola or Nexus phones.

The Z3v’s offered fairly long battery life too, seeing as I was able to get through a full day without having to search for an outlet. Of course, battery life varies depending on the types of apps you use. But after a full day of browsing the web here and there, taking photos, and using Google Maps, it held up just fine.

Lisa Eadicicco
Sony’s new phone is also waterproof like most of the company’s other Xperia products. Sure enough, after holding the phone under a faucet in my kitchen, it worked just fine. You can even use the Z3v’s camera underwater.

I really enjoyed reading news articles and checking email on the Z3v’s big 5.2-inch display. It’s not much bigger than phones like the Galaxy S5 and HTC One, which come with 5.1-inch screens, but you can notice the subtle difference in size. It’s a great phone for those who typically do a lot of reading on the go, especially since it’s still compact enough to use with one hand.

Colors looked vibrant and bold, too. I watched several movie trailers on the Z3v’s 1080p screen, and each one looked colorful and sharp. The only downside, however, is that the Z3v’s LED strip under the screen sometimes lights up when you’re watching a video or reading. It’s subtle, but still distracting at some capacity.
The Camera
The Sony Xperia Z3v comes with a 20.7-megapixel camera, which means it has a much larger sensor that most smartphones. The iPhone 6, for example, comes with an 8-megapixel sensor. But the sheer number of megapixels don’t always matter.

In this case, however, the difference was very noticeable. When snapping a photo of a street sign on the corner of 5th Ave. and 20th St. in New York, the photo taken with Sony’s phone looked much clearer with bolder colors. Although it was overcast, the Xperia Z3v managed to take in enough light to capture detail.

Here’s how the Z3v’s photo looks. When comparing to the iPhone 6’s image below, you’ll notice the buildings in the background look much sharper. Not to mention the sky looks much brighter, too.

Lisa Eadicicco
Now here’s the iPhone 6’s version. There’s a slightly yellow filter over the image, and the buildings definitely look blurry compared to the photo taken with the Sony Z3v.

Lisa Eadicicco Conclusion
The Sony Xperia Z3v is a great large-screened phone for those who don’t quite want something as massive as the Galaxy Note 4 or LG G3. It’s got one of the best cameras you’ll find on a smartphone, and it’s also one of the few phones that can handle a little water.

However, the glossy body is quick to pick up fingerprints, which gives the phone a perpetually smudged look. The design is also a bit thicker and heavier than some other high-end Android phones on the market. Not to mention, the user interface is cluttered with widgets that you’ll probably never use. But overall, it’s a solid choice for Verizon customers that want a big Android phone.

On her wedding day the bride looks like a mesmerising goddess and her enchanting beauty is difficult to capture through lens.

A Maharashtrian wedding is filled with beautiful moments that will steal anyone's heart who loves Indian wedding, just like us. So, we decided to feature some of our beautiful Maharashtrian brides and their mesmerising wedding journey.

The ceremonies start

A Maharashtrian wedding takes place on an auspicious day, decided by the priest and it takes place usually in the day time. A lot of importance is given to matching the horoscopes and their suitability for the bride and the groom. Once an auspicious date is finalised after the horoscopes are consulted, the wedding rituals take place with enthusiasm and fervour.

Sakhar puda or ring exchange

The first and the foremost ritual which takes place in a Maharashtrian wedding is the sakhar puda. It is similar to an engagement ceremony which formalises the marriage. In this ceremony the couple exchange rings and their family exchange sugar packets as a beginning of a lifelong relation. Just like sugar, they expect the would-be-bride and groom will savour a sweet relationship.

In other Hindu weddings, red or maroon colour is considered as auspicious, and become a part of a bride's wedding day look. For Maharashtrian brides, there are four main colours which dominate their look. Yellow, green, red and purple, are considered sacred for Maharashtrian brides and they prefer to wear these colours on their wedding day.

Maharashtrian bride’s chooda

Bangles or chooda are an important part of bride’s ornaments. But a Maharashtrian bride prefers only green coloured bangles. It is accompanied with solid gold bangles that are gifted to the bride by the groom’s family.

The glass bangles in green are a symbol of fertility, new life and creativity. According to the rituals, for a Maharashtrian bride, it is considered inauspicious if you wear even number of bangles in your hands, and also the number of bangles in both hands should not be the same! Many Maharashtrian women wear these bangles even after marriage and it is considered as a symbol of their marital status.

In fact this head piece is worn by both the bride and the groom and makes them look unique and different from any other couple.

Mangalsutra moment

Another important ceremony in a Maharashtrian wedding is when the groom puts a necklace around the bride’s neck. This necklace called as the mangalsutra is made from gold and black colour beads. It is this thread which is a symbol of their union.

Saath pheras- the seven vows

A couple takes the saat pheras or the seven wows of marriage when they unite into one. They accept each other as their soul mates for the next seven births.

Lastly, when the couple is initiated into the Grihasthashram, they exchange solemn promises with each other. The bride asks groom to always respect her and never violate her maryada, while the groom asks the bride to remain loyal and devoted to him.

The vivacious bride and the effervescent groom are the epitome of simplicity and purity of the rich Maharashtrian traditions. And, a colourful Maharashtrian wedding with its heart-warming customs and rituals can definitely steal hearts.
