In yet another valid move to establish Bapulapadu near Hanuman Junction as a suitable location for construction of the capital of Andhra Pradesh, the Krishna district political leaders and officials have prepared a final report to be presented to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao and officials have already examined the report, prepared by a few senior officials, and in principle they have agreed to present the same to the state selection committee. Krishna district Collector M. Raghunandan Rao, who finalised the report without any change, has reportedly decided to discuss the matter with the Chief Minister on July 12 in Vijayawada.
“Krishna district officials’ report citing Bapulapadu as the most suitable place for the capital is one of the best arguments among other locations in the fray,” Mr. Uma Maheswara Rao told The Hindu. According to official sources, an estimated 25,000 acres of land is available in and around the areas covering Bapulapadu, Hanuman Junction, Agiripalli and Mallavalli and Gannavaram. Of them a total of 25,000 acres a majority is owned by the state government, forest and endowment departments.
“Apart from abundant ground and surface water sources, the place is arguably suitable for the capital, keeping in view expansion of the city in future,” said the Deputy Director of Groundwater Department A. Varaprasada Rao, one of the officials involved in preparation of the report. The officials also opined that construction of bridges on river Krishna as part of construction of the new capital would be expensive and time taking. However, Bapulapadu-based capital would help minimise traffic woes of the Vijayawada city, he added.
