New cheque rules: 5 things to know

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently changed cheque-rules to tackle the rise in cheque-related fraud cases. It asked banks to put preventive measures in place and follow them meticulously. It also issued some other guidelines in this regard. Here is what you need to know:

1) SMS alerts: The RBI asked banks to send an SMS alert to both payer and drawer when the cheque is received for clearing. Till now, SMS alerts were compulsory only for debit/credit card transactions. While dealing with suspicious or cheques of high value, banks have been asked to alert the customer by a phone call and obtain confirmation from both the parties involved in the transaction. The account holder’s bank branch must also be contacted.

2) Examination of cheques: Besides sending alerts, banks have been asked to examine cheques under UV lamp. This is applicable if the cheque amount goes over Rs 2 lakh. Also, a mechanism must be put in place to ensure multi-level checking of cheques for amount over Rs 5 lakh. Banks are also required to closely monitor how money is deposited or moved out from newly opened transaction accounts.

3) KYC compliance: Whenever you open a new bank account, you are supposed to go through a process called Know Your Customer or KYC. This is a must. It ensures that the bank verifies information about you, thus limiting fraud cases. So, it goes without saying that the person writing the cheque will be compliant with KYC rules. The RBI now states that even the recipient should be KYC compliant.

4) CTS-2010 cheques: The RBI asked banks to ensure the use of 100% CTS-2010 compliant cheques. As part of the Cheque Truncation System (CTS), an electronic image of the cheque is transmitted to the cheque-writer’s bank branch through the clearing house, along with other relevant information. It helps eliminate the need for physical movement of the cheque for verification. Thus the scope for fraud is reduced.
Many times, even though the original cheques were held by the account holder, fraudsters enchased cheques with the same number. So, banks have been advised to take appropriate precautionary measures to ensure that confidential information like customer name, account number, signature, cheque serial numbers and other information are verified and not misused in any way.

5) Cheque-handling infrastructure: Among other preventive measures, RBI stated that high quality of equipment and personnel must be ensured for CTS-based clearing. Banks should not look at it as a mere mechanical process, but consider it as an important part of cheque-handling.

Amaravati - The Punyakshetra

Amaravati is also known as 'Punyakshetra'. When Subramanya killed the demon Tarakasura, the Shivalingam in his throat broke and fell in five different spots, which became the Pancharama kshetras. The foremost of these is Amareswara at Amaravati where Indra and the Devas are believed to have worshipped Shiva. Amareswaram is considered sacred because of three things, the Krishna River, an important 'Kshetra' with a 'Sthalamahatyam' and the 'Sri Mahalinga Murthy', which are three sacred principles embodied in one. It was also the capital of Satavahanas, the first great Andhra kings who ruled from the 2nd century BCE to the 3rd century CE, after the downfall of Maurya empire.

Amravati or Amareswaram is regarded holy because of the presence of the Krishna river, Sthalamahatyam, a vital Kshetra and the Sri Mahalinga Murthy. Five different forms of Lord Shiva are called 'Pranaveswara', 'Agasteswara', 'Kosaleswara', 'Someswara' and 'Parthiveswara'. Lord Shiva, present in the form of a 15 ft. high white marble Shiva lingam. the temple is surrounded by four high gopuras built in typical Dravidian style

Original Shivalingam is said to have been held in worship by the seven rishis - Kasyapa, Atri, Gowtama, Kousika, Bharadwaja, Vasishta and Jamadagni. These rishis are believed to be present in the seven tributaries of Godavari.

The major festivals celebrated in the Amareswara temple are the Maha Shivaratri, falling on the 'Magha Bahula Dasami', the Navaratri and the 'Kalyana Utsavas'.

According to Vajrayana traditional sources the Buddha preached at Dharanikota/Dhanyakatakam and conducted Kalachakra ceremony, which would take the antiquity of Amaravati back to 500 BCE. Taranatha, the Buddhist monk writes: "On the full moon of the month Caitra in the year following his enlightenment, at the great stupa of Dhanyakataka, Buddha emanated the mandala of "The Glorious Lunar Mansions" (Kalachakra). This shows that Dhanyakatakam (Amaravati) was a very important place a the time of composition of this tantra.

The recorded history of Amaravati and nearby Dharanikota is from 2nd century BCE. It was the capital of Andhra Satavahanas who ruled from 2nd century BCE to 3rd century CE. After the decline of Satavahanas, Andhra Ikshvakus and later Pallava kings ruled Krishna river valley. Subsequently, Eastern Chalukyas and Telugu Cholas held sway over the region. Kota Kings were in control of Amaravati during the medieval times. Kota kings were subdued by Kakatiyas in 11th century CE and Amaravati became part of the unified Telugu empire. The origin of the temple shrouded in mystery, though there are many legends, puranic and historical, about it.

The Amaravati Buddhist sculptures are world-famous.Slabs with Buddhist inscriptions were found in its groundwork, the temple is said to have been a Buddhist shrine in the previous times.famous for its world famous Buddhist sculptures. Home to best known 2000 years old Buddhist relics, which make the place an important pilgrimage for the Buddhists. The place is also identified as Dhanyakataka by several scholars, who connects Amaravati with the origin of many Tantric teachings especially, Kalchakra.

Amaravati Mahachaitya (The Great Stupa), built around the 2nd century must have been the largest stupa in the whole country. The stupa was earlier a simple structure with limestone crossbars and simple carvings, but when renovated by the Satavahana rulers, became a highly marked architectural monument. It is believed to have been constructed with the efforts of the great saint, Acharya Nagarjuna. Excavated a few years back, this stupa is engraved with intricate carvings that depict the life and teachings of Lord Buddha

Amaravati is situated twenty miles northwest of Guntur and is connected with it by a high-quality motorable road. At Amaravati, there is a Public Works Department Travelers Bungalow, some choultries and sheds for pilgrims' stay.

To reach the place by Air the nearest airport is Vijayawada (82 km).

By Rail the nearest railheads are Guntur and Vijayawada. A good network of connect Guntur to Amaravati.

By Road Amaravati is situated 20 miles northwest of Guntur and is connected by a good motorable road. Local Transportation : Taxis and buses are available from Guntur.

NTR Airport *** Exclusive

Hyderabad: Shamshabad airport authorities are in a spot. The Centre’s order to name the ‘domestic terminal’ of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport after N.T. Rama Rao has left airport officials nonplussed.

A senior official from GMR Ltd. which operates the airport, said: “We are a little confused on how to implement the orders. The airport is integrated and it has no separate terminals. Domestic and international arrivals are being handled in one terminal and departures in another.”

“How do we keep separate name boards in the same terminals is the question,” he said. “We will discuss with civil aviation officials and go about it soon,” he said. The Begumpet airport in the heart of Hyderabad had separate terminals for domestic and international travel; the domestic terminal was named after NTR and the international terminal after Rajiv Gandhi.

After Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination in 1991, the P.V. Narasimha Rao government named the Begumpet airport after the slain leader. The domestic terminal was named after NTR after his death in 1996, by the then United Front government at the behest of N. Chandrababu Naidu, who was Chief Minister at that time.

The Telugu Desam government in 2005 started work on the Shamshabad airport and wanted it to be named after NTR. In 2008, the airport was named after Rajiv Gandhi. Senior Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao said the renaming was intended to insult Telangana as well as Rajiv Gandhi. “AP CM is deliberately acting so to show his authority over Telangana. If he is really interested, he could have named any airport located in AP after NTR,” he said.

The senior Congress MP appealed to Telangana Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, to put a stop to the move. “Everyone knows the state was bifurcated, how can the Centre, at the behest of Mr Naidu, rename the only airport in Telangana by putting an Andhra leader’s name?” he asked.

Senior Congress legislator Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said, “The Shamshabad airport is totally different from the Begumpet airport. How can the Centre split the terminals and fix NTR’s name for one of them?” he asked. There was no official word from the TRS, with top leaders closeted in meetings to discuss the party’s strategy for the ensuing Parliament session. “The Chief Minister may react to this only tomorrow,” said an official from the Chief Minister's Office.

Iskcon Guntur

GUNTUR: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) is going to construct a unique golden Lord Butter Krishna temple near Kondaveedu Fort of Guntur district with a fund of Rs 500 crore. This is the first of its kind of a golden temple in south India.

The surroundings of the temple will host pavilions for different attractions from Mahabharata and Ramayana.

The temple complex will also house an international school, a medical centre, a religious theme park, a museum with the history of Kondaveedu, a vedic school and a cow protection centre.

A rare idol of young Krishna, locally called as Venna Mudda Gopaludu, was found during the excavations at the historical and ancient Kondaveedu fort in 1998 and it inspired Iskcon to construct a golden butter Krishna temple at Kondaveedu.

According to the Kondaveedu development society convener K. Siva Reddy, the discovered butter Krishna idol belongs to 13th century. It was sculpted during King Sri Krishna Devaraya and this golden temple is going to revive the religious cultural heritage of Kondaveedu.

Iskcon south India president and trustee of golden temple project, Satyagopinath Das said that the Iskcon planned to promote spiritual heritage, hence started Iskcon-Kondaveedu Spiritual Heritage Revival Project (IKSHR). It will create a comprehensive spiritual tourist attraction zone in 150 acres of land, he added.

He said that the project would be completed in three phases and already the Gosala (cow protection center) and a cow university have been started at Kondaveedu.

He said that Iskcon sought 58 acres of land, but the government has allotted only 21 acres of lands.

Hence, they are waiting for the allotment of land to start the temple project. The golden temple will have gold-plated sanctum sanctorum.

ANU Assembly

The winter session of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature is likely to be held on Acharya Nagarjuna University premises in Guntur. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is said to be mulling the idea of holding the Assembly session in the new State as part of efforts to reassure that the State government was committed to keeping the administration closer to the people.

Though a firm date of the session is yet to be announced, government sources said the legislature could convene its meeting around the first week of December.

Legislative Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao along with Legislature Secretary and senior officials will visit the university premises on Monday and examine facilities. The Speaker will visit H.H. Deichmann Auditorium and take a look at the facilities. The auditorium complex with a capacity of 1,000 has two more seminar halls in addition to green rooms.

Apart from facilities, the Speaker is likely to take stock of the security arrangements that should be put in place when the session is in progress. The decision to hold the session in Guntur comes in the light of the friction between the Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the accommodation of important functionaries in the existing premises at Hyderabad.

Amidst tiff over the allocation of offices to the Chief Minister, Ministers, Chief Whip and other functionaries with the Telangana government, Dr. Sivaprasada Rao is learnt to be keen on shifting the venue out of Hyderabad as early as possible.

The decision to hold the session in the new State comes in the light of preference being accorded by Mr. Naidu to hold all important events in the new State. The government had earlier held the first meeting of the State Cabinet at Visakhapatnam which was preceded by meeting of the MPs of Andhra Pradesh and the Collectors’ conference in Vijayawada. Mr. Naidu also held an important meeting with the Finance Commission in Tirupati instead of Hyderabad.

ANU Vice Chancellor K. Viyanna Rao confirmed that the Speaker’s office had sent a note informing him about the visit.

Philae lander makes historic touchdown on comet

The signal broke a seven-hour wait of agonising intensity and sparked scenes of jubilation at the European Space Agency’s mission control in Darmstadt. The team in charge of the Rosetta mission achieved what at times seemed an impossible task by landing a robotic spacecraft on a comet for the first time in history.

The moment the tension broke came shortly after 1600 GMT when the Philae called home. “We are there. We are sitting on the surface. Philae is talking to us,” said a jubilant Stephan Ulamec, Philae lander manager at the DLR German space centre. “We are on the comet.”

Andrea Accomazzo, the Rosetta flight operations director, added: “We cannot be happier than we are now.”

But celebrations were tempered by the later discovery that the probe’s two harpoons had not fired to fasten the craft down in the ultra-low gravity. Scientists now think the probe may have bounced after first coming into contact with the surface. Ulamec said: “Maybe today we didn’t just land once, we landed twice.”

The safe, if precarious, touchdown of the lander gives scientists a unique chance to ride onboard a comet and study from the surface what happens as its activity ramps up as it gets closer to the sun. The first images beamed back from the lander’s descent revealed a dramatic landscape of pits and precipices, craters and boulders. However, there have been gaps in its radio link with the orbiting Rosetta mothership.

Mangalagiri Temple - The Auspicious Hill

Mangalagiri - The Auspicious Hill

Mangalagiri means The Auspicious Hill. This place is one of the 8 important Mahakshetrams (sacred places) in India. The eight places where Lord Vishnu manifested himself are (1) Sri Rangam (2) Srimushnam (3) Naimisam (4) Pushkaram (5) Salagamadri (6) Thothadri (7) Narayanasramam (8) Venkatadri. Thotadri is the present Mangalagiri. Lakshmi Devi has donetapas on this hill. That's why it got this name (The auspicious hill). There are three Narasimha Swamy temples in Mangalagiri. One is Panakala Narasimha Swamy on the hill. Another one is Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy at the foot of the temple. Third one is Gandala Narasimha Swamy at the top of the hill.

This shape of the hill looks like an elephant. From all the directions, the hill appears in the elephant shape only. There is an interesting legend to show as to how the mountain came into existence. Pariyatra, an ancient king had a son Hrasva Srungi visited all holy and sacred places to regain normal bodily stature and finally visited this holy place of Mangalagiri and stayed for three years performing penance. All the Devathas (Gods) advised him to stay at Mangalagiri and continue to do penance in praise of Lord Vishnu. The father of Hrasva Srungi came with his retinue to take back his son to his kingdom. But Hrasva Srungi took the shape of an elephant to become the abode of Lord Vishnu who is locally known as Panakala Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy.

The temple of Sri Panakala Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy is situated on the hill. On the right side of the steps provided to reach the temple, there is a stone inscription by Sri Krishnadeva Raya of Vijayanagar and a little further up, the foot prints of Mahaprabhu Chaitanya are to be seen. Midway on the steps there is a temple of Lord Panakala Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy there is only the face with the mouth widely opened. A dhwajasthambham was erected in front of the temple in 1955. Behind the temple there is the temple of Sri Lakshmi, to the west of which there is a tunnel which is believed to lead to Vundavalli caves on the banks of the Krishna. The stone inscription of the kings of Vijayanagar relate besides to the conquest of Rayalu over Kondapalli etc., that Siddhiraju Thimmarajayya Devara granted a total of 200 kunchams (10 kunchams make one acre) land in 28 villages of which Mangalagiri was one and gift of 40 kunchams by China Thirumalayya to Ramanujakutam.

The steps to the temple were constructed by Sri Channapragada Balaramadasu in 1890. There was a cave next the devi temple on the hill. It is said that, there is a way to Vundavalli from that cave, and the sages used to go by that way to take bath in Krishna River. Now, the cave is very dark, and the way could not be seen.

Panakala Narasimha Swamy - God Who Drinks Panakam

It is said that here, god is self-existent. In the temple, there will be no statue of the god, but there is only mouth, widely opened to 15 cms. The mouth is covered by metal face of the god. The temple will be opened till afternoon only, with the belief that devatas will perform pujas in the night. The God takes jaggery water as offering by a conch. The Jaggery water is actually poured into the mouth of the Lord, a gargling sound is clearly audible as if the Lord is actually drinking it and the sound becomes shriller and shriller as and when the Lord is drinking. The sound will come to a stop after sometime and the balance of the jaggery water is thrown out. This phenomenon happens not once in a day but is a recurring feature during the course of the day as and when devotees offer panakam (jaggery water). It will be interesting to note that even a single ant is not traceable near the Lord nor around the temple in spite of the offering of so much jaggery water. As the offering of the panakam to the Lord is peculiar, the Lord here is called panakala Narasimhaswamy. There is a legend about the offering of the panakam (jaggery water) to the Lord. It is said that the hill was once a volcano. Sugar or jaggery water, it is said, neutralizes sulphur compounds found in a volcano and prevents a volcanic eruption.

Behind the temple there is the temple of Sri Lakshmi, to the west of which there is a natural cave. It is believed that it will lead to Undavalli caves on the banks of the Krishna river and the sages used to go to take bath in Krishna River. Now, the cave is very dark and the way could not be seen. We can reach the temple through steps-way on foot and also by road-way. The steps to the temple were constructed by Sri Channapragada Balarama Dasu in 1890. In 2004, ghat road had been constructed through which the pilgrims can reach the temple easily.

Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple

At the foot of the hill, there is another temple whose origin is traced to the time of Yudhishtira, the eldest of the pandavas. Yudhishtira is said to be the founder of the chief image of this temple and the deity here is called Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. In Vijayawada itself, which is 8 miles from Mangalagiri there is a hill called Indrakeeladri in which Arjuna is said to have done tapascharya (penance) in order to obtain the weapon Pasupata from Lord Siva. About 200 years back Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Naidu who ruled from Amaravati as his capital constructed a stupendous gopuram (tower) on the eastern gate of the Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy. It is one of the highest gopurams in South India and only one of its type in this part of India. It is 153ft. in height and 49 feet wide with 11 storeys, and gates facing east and west. This great and imposing tower dwarfs the central shrine. The devoted patience of thousands of skilled craftsmen and the labour of many more apprentices which had gone into this great structure is a testimony to the religious fervour which characterized the builder. After constructing the gopuram, it was leaning towards one direction. The Kancheepuram Architects suggested to dig a tank opposite to the tower. After digging the tank, it is said that, the tower became straight.

Govt banks re-evaluating ATM charges

Even as State Bank of India, the country's largest lender, has decided to charge its customers for more than fivetransactions through automated teller machines (ATMs), private sectors banks continue to be on a wait-and-watch mode.

However, following SBI's decision, some major public sector banks are re-evaluating the cost of ATM transactions and are likely to take a decision on restricting the number of free transactions.

Among them is public sector lender IDBI Bank. A senior IDBI bank executive said: "As of now, the bank has not changed the terms for ATM usage though RBI (Reserve Bank of India) permitted us. But it has become an expensive proposition, especially when our customer uses other banks' ATMs. An internal assessment is underway for taking a call on revising the terms and charges."

IDBI Bank has 2,727 ATMs at the end of September 2014, he added. A Bank of India official also said they have not revised the charges as of now, but they will review the usage pattern and then take a decision accordingly.

Some public sector bank officials are also inclined to charge consumers for ATM transactions because of the high interchange fee that state-run banks end up paying private sector banks because of the latter's wide ATM network. Interchange fee is the amount a bank has to pay another if its customers make a transaction at the latter's ATM.

However, private sector lenders, especially the mid- and small-sized banks, have decided to play the waiting game and not look at charging their customers any time soon.

"Banks are playing the waiting game now. Even though it has been allowed by the regulator, the lenders are waiting to see who makes the first move in the private banking space. As a result, several banks have decided not to charge as of now," said a bank official from a private sector bank.

According to RBI guidelines, banks are free to charge their customers after the first five free transactions from November 1. RBI had stated that banks could choose to offer more than five free transactions, if they so wished.

The increase in charges by any bank will be applicable to transactions in the six metro cities of Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. These transactions mean both financial and non-financial balance enquiry, change of PIN, mini statement, etc.

Going ahead, industry players say that even if they levy any charges, it will most likely be free for customers who will maintain a certain average quarterly balance. "Most banks will not charge HNI (high net worth individual) customers. Moreover, they will ensure the number of free ATM transactions are kept free if you maintain a high average quarterly balance," said another private bank official.

However, the number of free transactions at ATMs of other banks has also been lowered to three.

Earlier, a customer had to pay up to Rs 20 for every transaction beyond five at non-home-bank ATMs. Now, the charges will apply only beyond three transactions at other bank ATMs.

According to RBI data, at the end of June, the number of ATMs in the country stood at 166,894.

Earlier, banks, in association with the National Payments Corporation of India, had sent a proposal to the banking regulator to reduce the number of free transactions at non-home ATMs. They had also sought to be allowed to charge consumers for use of own-bank ATMs.

CHEQUES & BALANCES

Though SBI has decided to charge customers after the fifth transaction at its ATMs, its pvt sector peers are on a wait-and-watch mode

Some PSBs are inclined to charge consumers because of the high interchange fee - the amount a bank has to pay to another, if the former's customer makes a transaction at the latter's ATM

Milk and its side effects-the myths Revealed

Milk is considered to be a complete diet, as it contains 18 essential nutrients that are required by the body. It is also believed to reduce the likelihood of osteoporotic fractures.

However, a new study published in the British Medical Journal suggests that high intake of milk is associated with higher fracture risk and higher rate of death among both men and women.
This brings us to the question: How much milk is good for health?

As per the dietary guidelines for Indians, three portions of milk and milk products, with each portion being of 100 gm, is to be included in the balanced diet of adult men and women. For pregnant and lactating women, it is five portions per day.

Overall consumption less in India
Dairy products are a major source of calcium in the West. In comparison to South India, dairy consumption is slightly more in North India. However, the overall consumption is less than recommended. Majority of Indians enjoy cereals and green vegetables and these are important sources of calcium for them. While the low income group looks at milk as a “prestige food”, even in the high income groups, milk and other dairy products are not a priority.

K. Sunitha Premalatha, chief dietician at Yashoda Hospital, said, “Milk and eggs are the only two foods consumed by humans that are designed to meet the entire nutritional need of the body. It has been observed that milk has a balanced nutrient composition and can meet the needs as it has protein, Vitamin B2 and B12, calcium, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium and trace elements like zinc, iodine, chromium and others.”

All the macro and micro-nutrients are present in an easily digestible and absorbable form. Milk provides important nutrients to children and adolescents and is required during development and growth.

Benefits outweigh side effects

Milk is certainly good for health. It has calcium, protein and amino acids. It is good for bone health too. Dr Hari Kishan Boorugu, consultant physician at Apollo Hospitals, said, “The debate over good and ill effects of milk have been raging for too long. But milk has more benefits than risks. However, drinking raw milk can result in some bacterial illnesses. The oxidative stress, which is found due to milk consumption, is based on one study and cannot be concluded as an accepted fact.”
Oxidative stress can also be because of infections, drugs and foods that contribute to this stress. Buffalo milk has more fat and absorbable calcium in comparison to cow’s milk, but the overall nutritional values are comparable. All in all, moderate consumption of milk is recommended for all.

Adults, senior citizens need low cal milk
While milk is good for health, its absorption varies in middle-aged and elderly people. The reason is that in adults, 40 to 50 per cent of milk is excreted. As a result, absorption of calcium in the body is reduced. Senior citizens must consume 200 ml low calorie skimmed milk per day. This will help them get 35 per cent of the calcium. Dr Shiva Raju, senior physician and diabetologist at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, explained, “The need to reduce milk consumption among older people is felt because too much of high fat milk can lead to diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and also cancer. It is important to reduce the quantity of milk and dairy products like cheese, butter, flavoured milk to avoid the fat content and added sugars. Instead low calorie milk or skimmed milk is preferred.”

Andhra Pradesh unveils road map for new capital city

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh will have a "riverfront" capital on the south side of river Krishna as the State Government ended months of suspense and speculation today by announcing that 17 villages in the existing Guntur district will be developed into a new capital city.

The villages, however, will not be disturbed and the capital city will be built in six sectors of 5,000 acres each, according to members of the State Capital Advisory Committee.

It's for the first time the TDP-led Government has come out with a clear location of the new capital as it has so far been saying it would come up in the Vijayawada region.

The 17 villages, of course, are within a 30-km periphery of Vijayawada, though on the other side of river Krishna in neighbouring Guntur district.

The villages that will form part of the new capital are: Neerukonda, Kuragallu and Nidamarru in Mangalagiri mandal; Borupalem, Tulluru, Nelapadu, Nekkallu, Sakamuru, Mandadam, Malkapuram, Velagapudi, Mudalingayapalem, Uddandarayapalem, Lingayapalem, Rayapudi, Apparajupalem and Dondapadu in Tulluru mandal.

Name of the new capital would be decided after the land pooling process was completed, the panel members said.

The existing Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority would be disbanded and replaced by a Capital Region Development Authority.

The Government estimated that it would cost Rs 75 lakh to Rs one crore to develop each acre of land, they said.

The Committee met here this evening under chairmanship of Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana and discussed the capital development and pooling of land required.

"We have decided to procure 30,000 acres of land under the pooling system for the new capital. This process will be completed in three months and the pooled land will be developed in the next nine months.

"Each land owner will be given 1,000 sq yards of developed land for every acre he parts with. Besides, Rs 25,000 per acre per annum will also be paid to them to compensate the loss of crops for the next ten years, with a 5 per cent hike every year," the panel members told a press conference at the end of their meeting.

In all, the Government has identified 21,000 land owners in the 17 villages earmarked for the capital. They would be given developed land through draw of lots in the sector close to their existing village, Committee member Pattipati Pulla Rao said.

Court Orders Shweta Basu Prasad's Release From Rescue Ho

On Wednesday, the metropolitan sessions court (Nampally) issued orders to release actress Shweta Basu Prasad, who was caught in a prostitution racket a few weeks ago, from the rescue home.

Shweta has been in the rescue home for 'rehabilitation' for almost two months now and after the court's order she will move to Mumbai to live with her mother. Basu's lawyer says that she was wrongly implicated and police has nothing to prove that she was involved in prostitution.

While an earlier statement allegedly given by the Makdee star stated that she voluntarily got into prostitution, she has now rubbished it. In a new statement the National Award winning actress has stated that she never got involved sexually with any director, producer, actor or agent for getting movie offers. Shweta has stated that she is pursuing her mass media communication course and doesn't need any counselling and rehabilitation.

On August 31, the 23-year-old was arrested by the Hyderabad police at a famous hotel in Banjara Hills and it is said that some high-profile businessmen from Mumbai were also held by the cops.

Free ATM transactions to be curtailed from today

New Delhi: From Saturday (November 1), frequent withdrawal of money from ATMs will be costlier with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) having imposed a limit of 3 cross-bank transaction per month from other banks and 5 from same bank.

As per the new RBI guidelines passed earlier in August, a customer will have to pay a fee of Rs 20 per transaction for using the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) beyond the permitted number of 3.

Prior to this, banks permitted 5 free transactions from cross-banks.

Customers will also be charge Rs 20 for using their own bank ATMs after the allowed 5 transactions limit.

These new guidelines, which were issued in pursuance of a representation made to the central bank by Indian Banks' Association, will come into effect from tomorrow in six metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

"The number of mandatory free ATM transactions for savings bank account customers at other banks ATMs is reduced from the present 5 to 3 transactions per month (inclusive of both financial and non-financial transactions) for transactions done at the ATMs located in 6 metro centres," RBI said earlier in a notification.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also made it clear that the said reduction will not apply to small/no frills/basic savings bank deposit account holders.

Also, it will not be applicable for account holders other than the six metro cities.

India has a total of 1.6 lakh ATMs across the country as of March 2014.
