Google Now can now display cards from 70 more Android apps

Washington, Apr. 29 (ANI): Google Now has added 70 more third-party partners to its Google Now cards.

According to TechCrunch, Google Now started pulling details from third-party Android apps from 40 third-party partners earlier this year. With 70 more partners added, brings the total pool of Now partners up to 110.

Google will now display info from 70 more inside the card-based repository.

Some partners from the new group include Spotify, which can now offer up playlists based on users recent listening trends and other contextual info, such as time of day; ABC News and Circa for breaking news; delivery reminders for food ordering service Eat24; and fitness progress reminders from apps like Runkeeper.OpenTable will even let users pay their restaurant bill directly from Now.

The latest version of the official Google app is required to run the cards from these new partners and that users should have the updated versions of each of the respective partner apps

Youtube to start making feature films starring website's biggest stars

Washington, Apr. 29 (ANI): Youtube will start making feature films which will be "driven by Youtube stars" in partnership with AwesomenessTV.
According to the Verge, Youtube and AwesomeTV will release various feature-length movies during the next two years.
Youtube is most likely to go for personality-based films around established video stars.
Youtube intends to premier the movies worldwide after which the films may be available on other platforms as well. 

HTC compares Apple, Samsung to diseases in new ad

NEW DELHI: Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has released a new marketing campaign that disparages rivals Apple and Samsung, comparing them to diseases.

The ad starts with a voiceover talking about fictional illnesses named Bi-phonal Displeasure Disorder, Samsung Affective Disorder (SAD), and Irritable Operating System (iOS). Produced as an advertisement for a treatment to these so-called disorders (caused by users getting bored with iPhones and Samsung Galaxy models), the campaign suggests a medicine called 'Cellami'.

After almost a whole minute of talking about the side-effects of taking Cellami (which may cause thoughts of 'Cellucide'), it is finally revealed that this is an ad for HTC One M9.

Rupee closes stronger against dollar at 63.15

Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Tuesday strengthened from its previous close, tracking gains in the local equities.

Since January, the rupee has fallen 0.16%, while foreign
institutional investors have bought $8.30 billion from local
equity and $6.71 billion from bond markets

The traders are also cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve two-day policy meeting.
Analysts expected no change in policy stance from the two-day Federal Open Market Committee meeting starting later Wednesday, as recent domestic data have been weaker than forecast and a strong dollar has crimped export activities, Reuters reported.

The rupee closed at 63.15, up 0.55% from its previous close. This is the domestic currency’s sharpest gain since 9 January. The local unit opened at 63.36 from its previous close of 63.49 and touched a high and a low of 63.11 and 63.46, respectively.

Since January, the rupee has fallen 0.16%, while foreign institutional investors have bought $8.30 billion from local equity and $6.71 billion from bond markets.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 96.401, down 0.38% from the previous close of 96.765.

The S&P BSE Sensex index rose 0.81% to close at 27,396.38 points.

Since 14 April, the local equity markets have fallen by 1,865 points on the expectation of weak monsoon, muted earnings and threat of minimum alternate tax on foreign funds.
The yield on India’s 10-year benchmark bond closed at 7.764% compared with its Monday’s close of 7.782%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.

Mahindra & Mahindra has slashed the price of its electric small car 'e2o' by Rs 92,000 following the launch of a central government scheme offering incentives on electric and hybrid vehicles.

The e2o, manufactured by the company's arm, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles will see a reduction in price by 16 per cent from its earlier price of Rs 5.71 lakh (on road Delhi) along with a fixed energy fee of Rs 2,999 per month for five years or 50,000km.

The car will now be available at Rs 4.79 lakh (on road Delhi), while the fixed energy fee remains the same.

Neelima, a software engineer from Guntur is Safe in Nepal

 Neelima, a software engineer from Hyderabad was part of the 20 member trekking team that was selected by her company Cognizant to climb Mount Everest in Nepal. But, Neelima has gone missing after the latest earthquake in Nepal. Though they were seen making some brave faces, the parents and family members of Neelima are highly concerned about their girl. They haven't got any information from the base camp at Kathmandu ever since the earthquake took place.

Neelima has boarded the Nepal flight on April 18th and she has even sent few photographs that were captured in the flight's cockpit area to her father. On 22nd, she spoke to her family about the climbing activity and asked them to stay strong if she happens to lose the communication signal. After few hours, the connection was lost and there was no communication ever since. The earthquake that took place later has made the communicating conditions worse. 

It has been 5 days since Neelima's family got any update from the team. 'We got a call from the Trekking agency about the whereabouts of the Cognizant team on Saturday and we are still waiting for their message. We are in constant touch with Guntur MP Jayadev Galla & Central Minister Sushma Swaraj. We are confident that our daughter gets back to the home soon,' said Neelima's father.

Neelima has been a professional mountaineer since many years and is also an Yoga expert. She is trained in Karate and is said to be a daring girl. Let's hope for a safe return of Neelima.

Maruti Suzuki logs 33 percent profit growth

New Delhi, April 27 (IANS) Passenger car major Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Monday said it had closed the last fiscal with 33.4 percent increase in profit and 14 percent growth in net sales.
In a statement issued here, the company said it had posted a net profit of Rs.3,711 crore, a gain of 33.4 percent compared to 2013-14.
The company registered net sales (net of excise) of around Rs.48,605 crore, a gain of 14 percent over the previous year.
Last fiscal, the company sold a total of 1,292,415 units during the year, a growth of 11.9 percent over the previous year. Of this, exports were at 121,713 units, a gain of 20.1 percent.
The board of directors recommended a dividend of Rs.25 per share of face value Rs.5 for 2014-15.

HYDERABAD , April 25: One team of  25 Andhra tourists to Khantmandu are reportedly safe while the whereabouts of another team of  30  tourists from Guntur district is still not confirmed after the worst earth quake of  7.9 I. Richter scale hit Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal this morning.

There was no loss of life and property in eastern districts of Andhra Pradesh   which reported mild tremors. But the scare of people living in high rises drove them out to plains in panic as reports of earthquake  were flashed on the TV screens.

Impact of the earthquake was felt in Visakhapatnam city, Rajanagaram, Yanam, Ravulapalem town, Mamidikuduru, Rajahmundry, Amalapuram, and Kakinada of East Godavari district, Vijayawada in Krishna district and Urlam in Srikakluam district. around 11.30 am to 11.45 am. Despite assurance from authorities that the  worst is over the residents preferred to outdoors and in groups in the fear of aftershocks.

Four Guntur villages may be relocated

GUNTUR: In a move that could trigger angry protests, the AP government is reportedly planning to relocate four villages in the proposed capital city.

According to reliable sources, the government has zeroed in on Nelapadu, Sakhamuru, Inavolu and Velagapudi in Tulluru mandal for location of the 'seed' capital. All houses and other structures in these villages may be demolished and the people shifted to other places.

Although the government is waiting for the master plan from Singapore to take the final call, municipal administration minister P Narayana is believed to have asked some of the local TDP leaders to get feedback from the villagers. Sources said government buildings like secretariat, Raj Bhavan, Assembly and high court will come up in the 'seed' capital city.

These villages together have 5,000 acres of agriculture land and a majority of farmers have agreed to the land pooling scheme. Sources said the government may give the villagers additional land in return for their houses and other properties.

The government plans to take complete possession of these villages. It will also take over panchayat land. The government thus far has been claiming that it will not take over houses and other buildings in the villages that fall under the capital city.

IPL fan park moves to Guntur

MUMBAI: The Indian Premier League (IPL) fan park moves to Nadiad in Gujarat and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh this weekend.

The Kheda District Cricket Association at College Road in Nadiad and BR Stadium in Old Guntur's Sai Nagar will be the two venues for the fan parks this weekend, Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur said in a statement on Wednesday.

On April 25, Mumbai Indians will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at 4 pm before Chennai Super Kings face Kings XI Punjab in the 8 pm match. The next day, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders meet table-toppers Rajasthan Royals at 4 pm before Delhi Daredevils face Royal Challengers Bangalore at 8 pm. 

Construction sector to be major tax source in Guntur

The construction sector is primed to be a major tax source in the district post-bifurcation, according to C.P. Rao, Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise, Guntur.

Mr. Rao said cement, ceramic and asbestos products had immense demand in the district. “Central Excise revenues from cement industry in 2014-2015 saw an increase of Rs. 46.36 crore, registering a growth of 14.88 per cent. In the case of ceramic products, the revenue registered a growth rate of 23.99 per cent and asbestos 25.32 per cent, indicating a marked increase in revenues,” he added.

According to him, the slowdown in the manufacturing industry in the first and second quarter of 2014-2015 had impacted Central Excise revenue. Apart from Jaypee Cements, most big players paid less tax than compared to that of the previous year, he added.

Holding that local cement manufacturing companies had done well last year, Mr. Rao said local players like Parasakti Cements and Bhavya had registered an impressive growth of 30.23 per cent and 25.38 per cent, respectively.

The boom in the construction sector is expected to drive the economy of the district, the Commissioner said. Revenue realisation for the year 2014-2015 was Rs. 805.85 crore as against the target of Rs. 924 crore, he said, adding that Central Excise revenue recorded an impressive growth of Rs. 100 crore compared to the previous year.

The tax revenue was also influenced by the reorganisation of the commisionerate.

The Guntur Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax Commissionerate, having jurisdiction over the five districts of Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari, Nellore and Prakasam, has been reorganised, with the Guntur Commissionerate jurisdiction being limited to Guntur, Krishna and West Godavari. A separate Nellore Commissionerate has been formed with jurisdiction over Nellore, Prakasam and Kadapa.

Dollar-rupee futures flat in noon deals

Dollar-rupee futures gained on Friday. USDINR April contract went up 2 paise or 0.03 percent at 63.38 as against previous close of 63.36.

The most active April contract witnessed a high of 63.54 and a low of 63.2375 after opening at 63.26.

A total of 0.89 million contracts were traded till 12:08 pm. Turnover for April contract was at Rs 56.74 billion. Meanwhile, open interest was at 1.26 million.

Indian rupee has depreciated on Friday against US dollar. Indian currency fell 7 paise or 0.11 percent against dollar to trade at 63.40.

NEW YORK  - An eye-popping, 100-carat diamond, the highlight of a magnificent jewels sale in New York on Tuesday, sold for $22.1 million, Sotheby's auction house said.
The perfect classic emerald-cut D color diamond, which is about the size of a walnut and was mined by De Beers in southern Africa, was purchased by an anonymous buyer via a telephone bid. It had a pre-sale estimate of $19 million to $25 million.
Gary Schuler, the head of Sotheby's jewelry department in New York, said the gem is the definition of perfection.
"The color is whiter than white, it is free of any internal perfections, and so transparent that I can only compare it to a pool of water," he explained.
The $22.1 million price, which includes the buyer's premium, fell short of the $30.6 million world record price paid for a 118.28 carat white diamond in Hong Kong in 2013. Sotheby's said only six perfect diamonds weighing more than 100 carats have been sold at auction in the last 25 years.
A flawless pink diamond, dubbed the "Pink Star," set a world record price for a gemstone at auction when it sold for $83.02 million in Geneva in 2013.
Schuler said the distinguishing characteristic of the huge diamond sold on Tuesday is its size and beautiful shape. Originally weighing over 200 carats, its owner spent more than a year perfecting its cut and polish.
Sotheby's said that from 1990 to 2013 the price per carat for a 100-carat perfect diamond had risen from $125,000 to $260,000.
The diamond was the top selling item in a sale of more than 350 jewels that were expected to sell for a total of more than $50 million.
Other highlights include a pear-shaped purplish pink diamond weighing 6.24 carats that has a pre-sale estimate of up to $3.5 million as well as a blue diamond and colored diamond ring weighing 6.06 carats that could bring in as much as $4.5 million.
Two Cartier Art Deco jewels, a rare platinum, emerald, sapphire, lapis lazuli and diamond pendant necklace as well as a ruby, emerald and diamond bracelet, will also be auctioned.
The Baron de Rothschild necklace is expected to sell for up to $2.2 million and the bracelet has a pre-sale estimate of up to $1.8 million.
Two Kashmir sapphire and diamond rings could each bring in $1 million or more, according to Sotheby's.

The continued weakness in gold prices is likely to push up jewellery sales by up to 25% this Akshaya Tritiya, considered auspicious to buy gold, according to retailers.

"The prices have been stable for quite some time, which we expect will be a boost for jewellery sales during this Akshaya Tritiya," Manubhai Jewellers Director Samir Sagar told PTI.

About 2-3 weeks ago, he said the sales were in slow lane due to the financial year ending.

Akshaya Tritiya, which is considered an auspicious day to buy gold, falls on April 21.

"However, the momentum has picked up due to public holidays. Looking at this growth momentum, we are expecting 20-25% growth during this Akshaya Tritiya compared with last year. We expect most of our sales in categories like chains, bangles and other smaller items," Sagar said.

Echoing a similar view, P N Gadgil Jewellers' Chairman and Managing Director Saurabh Gadgil said Akshaya Tritiya looks exciting as prices continue to remain steady, hovering around Rs 27,000, mainly supported by global fundamentals.

"We are expecting a 20% growth in sales, mainly in small-ticket size items like coins and rings, among others, and bridal jewellery as the marriage season is round the corner," he reasoned.

He said most of the bridal jewellery, for which the company has been getting bookings for the last 10-15 days, would be picked up on Akshaya Tritiya.

"The bridal jewellery bookings this year are 20-25% more than last year," he added.

"Over the last few months gold price has not been volatile, leading up to a spike towards the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. We are definitely expecting a good growth over the last year's sales," Tanishq Senior Vice President - Retail and Marketing (Jewellery) - Sandeep Kulhalli said.

The gold price in the domestic industry is now hovering at Rs 25,600 level.

Going forward, gold is likely to rule at Rs 25,500-26,000 level in the next three months, mainly on view that the US dollar would strengthen further and the Federal Reserve is likely to hike rates, according to Angel Broking Associate Director - Commodities and Currencies - Naveen Mathur.

All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) Chairman Manish Jain attributed the positive sentiment in the market to the steady gold prices.

Bachhraj Bamalwa of Nemichand Bamalwa & Sons in Kolkata said: "We are expecting 10-15% growth in sales during this Akshaya Tritiya compared with last year as there is a positive consumer sentiment towards gold all around due to stable gold prices and positive government policies.

Medical Colleges Fees in AP

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday issued orders for fixing fees in private medical and dental colleges in the state.

Fees for Category A (convener quota) seats in private medical and dental colleges have been slashed to Rs 10,000 per annum while that for Category B (management quota) in private medical colleges have been fixed at Rs 11 lakh.

Students joining private dental colleges under Category B will have to pay Rs 4.5 lakh per annum. Private medical and dental colleges will also hold a separate entrance test from this year on for admissions into management quota seats in line with Supreme Court ruling.

Students can only get admission into Category A seats through the state-conducted Eamcet. Private college managements will hold the MCET-AC test for admissions into (Category B) management quota seats.

The government amended the AP Unaided Non-Minority Professional Institutions Rules of 2007 and AP Unaided Minority Professional Institutions Rules of 2007 to allow private medical and dental colleges to hold their own entrance test MCET-AC for admissions to Category B seats. MCET will be conducted by a third party engaged by the college managements association. MCET-AC will be held in May this year.

All India Medical College Managements Association president G. Bhaskar Rao said, “We will hold MCET-AC in May this year. The exact schedule will be released later. The government has just issued orders so we will meet and decide.”

The government had decided to slash the fees last month but couldn’t owing to the MLC poll code of conduct. While Category A fee has been reduced drastically, fee for management quota seats has been filled.

Tata Motors makes Jaguar history in UK

Tata Motors has made automotive history in Britain with the launch of Jaguar's newest model XE, an entry-level luxury saloon car, at its factory in the West Midlands region of England. The factory at Solihull has traditionally been the home of sister brand Land Rover but the first Jaguar XE saloon rolled off the all-new production facilities at the plant this week. The 500-million pounds "factory within a factory" consists of a new body shop and trim and final facilities.

The Tata Group's investment in the unit represents the largest single investment in the Solihull plant in its 70-year history. Jeremy Hicks, Jaguar Land Rover's UK managing director, hopes that in its first full year the XE would double Jaguar's present annual UK sales of 18,000. "People who buy cars in this market stay very loyal. We are the new arrival in the playground and aiming to punch the three biggest kids on the nose," he said. "The XE will bring the average age of the Jaguar driver down significantly. We are accessing young professionals who have historically defaulted to the German brands because they have had nowhere else to go," he added. The XE, dubbed the 'Baby Jag' for its compact size, is not the only Jaguar that will be made at the new Solihull unit. The F-Pace, unveiled earlier this year, will also be built at the new unit from next year. 

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) was acquired by Tata Motors back in 2008 and has since seen a drastic turnaround in its profits. In 2010, the Solihull plant, which started operations building aircraft engines during World War II, was in danger of closure. Since then, 1-billion pound investment into the iconic brands from Tata Motors has led it to treble production to 240,000 vehicles and double the workforce in the suburb of Birmingham to 9,000. 

The XE and F-Pace could take annual output up by a further 50 percent to 360,000, with manpower set to peak at 10,500. JLR purchasing director Ian Harnett said: "Jaguar Land Rover is one of the UK's success stories, not simply because it has seen an upsurge in demand thanks to sustained investment, but because it has been able to support a burgeoning, high-tech, highly skilled supply base here in the UK. "With each successive new or upgraded model, we are seeing the positive impact felt amongst the entire automotive sector which is great news for everyone committed to ensuring the UK remains truly competitive on a global stage.
