'Deeply pained' Sujatha Singh says

Two days after she was unceremoniously removed from office by the government, former foreign secretary Sujatha Singh on Friday hit out at the government saying, "My reputation is being maligned, my record being trashed. Why was this necessary?"

On Wednesday, the government had abruptly curtailed her term, just seven months away from her retirement. She was replaced by S Jaishankar, the former envoy to the US.

Baahubali Movie Scenes Leaked !!!

Team Baahubali was shell-shocked after a 12 minute footage of the action episodes of the film have leaked.

The footage, considered key to the movie, is making rounds on the Internet. Rajamouli's magnum opus is being made a cost of whopping Rs 130 Crores .

Complaints have been filed against individuals in the team with the Cyber Crime division in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Police Departments. The BJP ad "killing Anna" # Trending News

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief of the Aam Aadmi Party, tweeted today that the BJP should apologise for "killing Anna" in a campaign ad.

The BJP ad mocks Mr Kejriwal for taking the support of the Congress to form government after the last election in December, 2013, and seems to imply that the AAP chief went against the principles of his former mentor Anna Hazare, using a garlanded portrait of the Gandhian.

"Nathuram Godse killed Gandhiji on this day in 1948. BJP has killed Anna in its ad today. Shudn't BJP apologise?" Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet.

Earlier this week, Anna Hazare said he was "not interested" in talking about Arvind Kejriwal and BJP's presumptive chief minister Kiran Bedi, who are now main rivals in the fight for Delhi.

He was responding to NDTV's questions about gathering a new team for his campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after the break-up of "team Anna", which was at the core of his massive anti-corruption campaign in 2011. Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi were the two most prominent faces of his old team.

"Ekla Chalo Re. I don't need Kiran Bedi or Arvind Kejriwal. I have the public with me," said the 77-year-old social activist.

In the last election, Anna Hazare, who had been openly disapproving of Mr Kejriwal's entry into politics, had banned AAP from using his name or images in their campaign.

Delhi votes for a new government on February 7. The results will be declared on February 10.

SAND SALE: GUNTUR DT. NETS RS. 23.77 CR.

Guntur district administration garnered revenue of Rs.23.77 crore from the sale of sand, Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pulla Rao said here on Tuesday.

Ever since the State government has liberalised mining policy and provided a facility for customers to order sand through mee seva counters, sand prices have come down, the Minister said at a media conference. Out of 3.65 lakh cubic metres of sand available, 3.02 lakh cubic metres has been sold fetching revenue of Rs.23.77 crore.Out of the revenue generated, Rs.8.50 crore was spent on giving fee to boatmen society, Rs.1.25 crore was given as cess to ZP and Rs.1.99 crore was paid to SHG members.

World Cup final Super Over

The upcoming cricket World Cup final will be decided by a Super Over in the event of a tie, the sport's governing body announced on Thursday.

The move is a return to the playing condition in force at the last World Cup in 2011, abandoning a proposal to have "joint winners", made by the International Cricket Council (ICC) last year.

"The ICC Board reinstated the use of a Super Over in the event of a tie in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 final," an ICC release said.

The ICC said a Super Over - in which both teams play one over of six balls - was the best way to decide the winner if the sides cannot be separated by the regulation 50 overs each.

"This now replicates the arrangements for the World Cup 2011 final and other recent ICC events where a winner will be determined on the day of the final (weather permitting), and a Super Over was the most credible way to separate the two sides," the statement said.

Last year, the ICC in its playing conditions for the 2015 tournament, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand and starting on February 14, had decided to have a joint winner in case the final was tied or abandoned due to bad weather.

The ICC also approved a change to the application of code of conduct offences relating to slow over-rates, so that captains do not carry any prior minor over-rate offence "strikes" or suspensions from other series into a major tournament.

The board also reiterated its support for umpires clamping down on poor player behaviour, after a number of ugly incidents in the past year.

Safety measures were also under discussion, following the tragic death of Australian batsman Philip Hughes last year.

Hughes died on November 27, two days after being hit by a bouncer on an unprotected area at the back of his head during an Australian domestic first-class game.

The board was briefed on an ICC-backed research project aimed at improving helmet safety, which resulted in a new British Safety Standard being introduced recently.

"It was noted that helmet manufacturers have now introduced a number of new helmet models that comply with the updated British Standard, and that an increasing number of international players have been choosing to wear the helmet models that comply with this new safety standard," the ICC said.

A leaf out of Modi book: Naidu plans three-day course to de-stress govt staff

Taking a leaf out of Narendra Modi’s ‘chintan shivirs’ when he was Gujarat CM, the AP government has arranged for its officials to undergo a three-day course on ‘Inner Engineering – for joyful living’ being held by Isha Foundation run by spiritual guru Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev.

Around 300 people, including ministers and government officials like IAS, IPS and IFS officers, will take part in the programme from January 29 to 31. This is the first time that the state government will be incorporating yoga and meditation into its schedules. The sessions will include preparatory yoga asanas, breathing exercises, exploration of tools for inner balance and joy, tools for translating inner well-being to external effectiveness.

“The CM felt that many officers and government employees have been working without a break since the bifurcation. First it was cyclone Hudhud and the restoration work that followed on a war-footing, then doing overtime to set the mechanism in place to deliver the poll promises made by the TDP, and the hectic efforts that are taking place to get work on the new capital started. The CM felt that ministers and officials need a break to de-stress. A bit of power yoga and meditation should help,’’ an official said.

With the government asking the Treasury, and Pay and Accounts offices in the state to stop all payments till salaries are paid on February 1, there won’t be much work for the officers and so the government decided to use the three days to inculcate yoga and meditation habits.

According to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the program is a team-building exercise which will give clarity of thought, teach how to maintain work-life balance and increase the happiness quotient of officials.

The Chief Minister will be at the inaugural session on January 29 and will also participate in an “in-conversation” session with Sadhguru on January 31, the closing day of the programme.

“I am happy to be here on a month-long visit. I am engaged in several social service programmes in USA and am president of UNICEF Queens Chapter 2014 and Global Advocate for US Fund for UNICEF,” she told The Hindu . Advocating girl child education and protection of women, she said she got to hear about bad conditions of women – increased violence against women in the recent times.

“I urge youth to respect and protect women as they do with their own mothers and sisters. Women create next generation and if we harm them, we harm our own future,” Ms Trisha said sharing her views.

She said she was elated with the title Miss Asia and said it her helped get public attention with which she was able to raise more funding for social service projects. “I am associated with education programme in Ghana. I am the director of Ghana School Project,” she added.

Ms. Trisha says the youth in India have good potential and they should use it for the good cause. If each of us worked little, we could create a better world for everyone particularly women and children.

Shrieks of excitement went up in air even as a dense fog enveloped the Ring Road on Sunday morning.

The presence of popular film stars and singers Ali, Nagur Babu and a host of actresses Nikitha, Madhavi Latha got the crowd on their feet. Singer Mano regaled the audiences with some foot-tapping songs.

The annual 10-K Walk organised by NRI Group of Educational Institutions drew hundreds of enthusiastic men and women from all walks of life. The theme of the walk — Walk for Health, Walk for Guntur — has been expanded to Walk for Andhra Pradesh.

Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, a fitness freak himself, flagged off the event at Indian Springs School, Vidya Nagar, and encouraged youngsters to take up walking as a regular exercise.

Chairman of the event, Alapati Rajendra Prasad, organisers Koye Subba Rao, MLAs Nakka Anand Babu, G.V. Anjaneyulu and others participated.

After the formal speeches, it’s time for action. The music was on and the fitness trainers got on the stage to give tips to participants before embarking on the gruelling walk. Cultural and dance programmes revved up the ambience.

The walkathon passed through the Ring Road, passed through Shankar Vilas, Hindu College Junction, Collectorate, Kankaragunta RoB, Chebrolu Factory and Gujjangundla before closing on at the school gate.

Patas collects Rs 8 crore

After a series of flops, actor-producer Kalyan Ram has tasted success in the form of his latest Telugu release Pataas, which is turning out to be a sleeper hit. The film has minted about Rs. 8 crore in its opening weekend.

"Not only has Pataas minted money, but it has witnessed increase in number shows in theatres as well. A low-budget film, it has grossed Rs. 8 crore in its opening weekend worldwide. Since the shows have been increased from Monday, it continues to do well at the box-office," trade analyst Trinath said.

Directed by debutante director Anil Ravipudi, the film also features Shruti Sodhi, Ashutosh Rana, Srinivas Reddy, Jayaprakash Reddy and late comedian MS Narayana. Kalyan plays a policeman with a weakness for corruption in the film. Sai Kumar also essayed an important role.

Guntur - Vijayawada Metro Rail Update

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Metro Rail, rail-based Mass Rapid Transit System, in the city will be completed by March end.

The surveys by experts on different aspects such as topographical survey, traffic analysis, geographical studies and water pipeline analysis are going on at a brisk pace and in all likelihood, it will be completed shortly.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Principal Advisor E. Sreedharan, who was in the city on Wednesday to review the progress of the surveys and preparation of the DPR for Metro Rail project, said that lapses, problems and progress in the DPR would be reviewed at the meeting.

“We will go for a field visit to inspect the alignments, key traffic junctions on Thursday,” he said.

DMRC Director (Business Development) S. D. Sarma said that the surveys were going on at brisk pace. Soil testing procedures would be undertaken shortly.

The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), which replaced the Vijayawada Guntur Tenali Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTMUDA), would spend Rs. 25 crore on the preparation of the DPR for the project.

As many as 23 Metro Rail stations, including the main station near the Pandit Nerhu Bus Station (PNBS), would come up along the Bandar and Eluru roads. Eleven stations each on Bandar and Eluru roads are being planned.

In phase-I of the project, metro rail services would be available between the Siddhartha Engineering College at Kanuru and the PNBS-railway station-Eluru Road-Ramavarappadu ring-Nidamanuru, covering a distance of 26 km. A depot would also come up at Nidamanuur, according to sources.

Agriculture offices to function from Guntur

GUNTUR: Agriculture minister Prattipati Pulla Rao on Tuesday said that the office of the agriculture commissioner will be shifted to the agriculture market committee complex (old chilli yard) in Guntur.

Earlier, Pulla Rao inspected the old chilli yard. He told reporters that all state-level offices of the agriculture department, including the offices of the director and the commissioner, will soon function from Guntur.

The municipal administration department will also be shifted to the chilli yard. The municipal department will oversee the construction of the state capital.

He said that about 30,000 sq yards of space is available in the market yard complex. The minister claimed that farmers are happy with the compensation package announced by the state government under the land pooling scheme. "The process is on as per target. It will be completed soon," he added.

NTR made a pizza

NTR (Tarak) bumped into Prakash Raj in the latter's farm house in the city on Saturday night. Guess what? Tarak, who happens to be a close pal of Prakash Raj, surprised everyone with his culinary skills by making a pizza.

Sharing his bonding with Tarak, Prakash Raj says, "We both have common passions and indulging in food and music is one of them. Even when we were shooting in Goa recently, we were searching for Greek restaurant. We both love traditional cuisines and relish homemade food. Whenever I'm feeling cold, he sends me a soup from his house and keeps pampering me with all such stuff."
So whose idea was it to make pizza? "The other night Tarak dropped in at my place and said 'I'll make a pizza for you'. Instantly, he thought of something and made a vegetarian pizza (wood fired oven) coated with egg and cheese," shares Prakash Raj.

The versatile actor also shares about Tarak's taste for music. "Apart from films, we share great rapport and discuss about other things in life. He has a great taste for music and there's also some space outside my premises and he's designing a nice music system and wants to gift me. I even send him books, documentaries, literary reviews on music," the actor signs off.

High Alert in Delhi

U.S. and Indian security agencies and intelligence services are mounting an unprecedented operation to keep President Obama safe on foreign soil as he arrives here for a historic visit as "chief guest" of Republic Day.

Security is always tight wherever the U.S. president goes, but it appears that measures have been taken to a new level for this trip.

Driving it all is the fact that Obama will spend a several more than two hours outdoors Monday on an open-air viewing platform in the center of the city -- a situation Secret Service tries very hard to avoid.

The situation is made more complicated because foreign military aircraft will be crisscrossing overhead, tens of thousands of residents are expected to be clogging surrounding streets -- and escape routes, and Pakistani militants have been threating terror.

Full Wi-Fi

New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) At a time when the country is launching another round of spectrum auctions in February and telecom operators are vying for allocations, global telecom infrastructure provider UTStarcom is confident that India's top 20 cities will be fully Wi-Fi enabled by the end of 2015.

"Wi-Fi will compliment data offload applications, which is something that all operators are implementing worldwide. India also has started (on this). By the end of 2015, Wi-Fi will be a reality in India. It will be there in top 20 cities in India, full coverage," Rahul Pandey, director - sales (SAARC Countries) at UTStarcom, told IANS.

Wi-Fi is the popular term for a high-frequency wireless local area network technology.

UTStarcom, with its operation headquarters in Hong Kong, recorded a $160 million turnover in 2013, with India being the second highest market after Japan. The company has been present in India since 2000 and has worked extensively with private and public players in deploying telecom infrastructure.

"After 2G, everyone (operators) came to 3G and paid for spectrum. There will be a stage they will be running out of spectrum to expand. So, that is the time, typically, when Wi-Fi comes in," UTStarcom chief executive officer William Wong told IANS.

"When Wi-Fi comes in, the cost of carrying data will be around one-tenth. If they want to offload the traffic on 3G or 4G and move it to Wi-Fi, the operating expenses will be dramatically reduced. That's what exactly we see in Japan," he added.

The company is working with a host of operators and they are bullish and determined on Wi-Fi connectivity. "They will be doing in phased manner. Some of them have started in trail phase," Pandey said, declining to name the operators.

The company met Telecom Secretary Rakesh Garg in September 2014. Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad went to Japan after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. Prasad inspected the UTStarcom deployment there.

"We have deployed more than 500,000 hotspots (Wi-Fi area), which means 1.5 million access points. The telecom secretary showed interest to replicate it in India," Pandey said.

The Indian government is extremely keen on speedy rollout of Wi-Fi services in the country.

"No policy problems. We have met all the telecom operators and they are finalising their budgets for Wi-Fi. The company is ready for deployment. We have expertise available. So it's not a challenge for us," Pandey added.

The company is focussing on the government's National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) that will help it to deploy Wi-Fi in rural areas. NOFN is set to link 600 million rural citizens of India across 250,000 gram panchayats spread over 6,600 blocks and 631 districts through a broadband optical fibre network.

"We talk about affordable connectivity. By affordable connectivity, we are looking at things like what the country is already doing in 4G deployment. There is lack of spectrum. One of the quickest ways to reach high percentage of deployment would be the adoption of Wi-Fi," Wong said.

"We did half a million in Japan in half a year. With NOFN on schedule, we could be coupling hand in hand with NOFN deployment. The minute NOFN deployment is done we can connect places with Wi-Fi," he added.

Wong said UTStarcom's platform supports a very dense number of hotspots. One controller can manage up to 120,000 hotspots.

"Now we are looking at the government for acceleration in deployment in both public and private sectors. The Modi government is active in connecting not just the Metros but also rural areas. So, I believe they are taking the right steps. So India can catch up on the global stage," Shalin Shah, general manager, India operations, UTStarcom, told IANS.

Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jan 22 (IANS) A leading international rating agency has certified Bengaluru as the most liveable location in India, followed by Mumbai and Chennai.

Though Bengaluru is ranked 171 in the global liveability index, the tech hub has scored favourably over metros and other cities across the country in terms of overall quality of living, while New Delhi has been rated as the least liveable, with worst air quality.

"In India, Bangalore (Bengaluru), which is ranked 171 globally, scores most favourably followed by Mumbai and Chennai both ranked 182. New Delhi, ranked 204, is the least liveable, with worst score for air quality like Beijing is in the world," ECA International said in a statement Thursday from London.

As the leading provider of knowledge, information and technology for the management and assignment of employees the world over, ECA rated Singapore as the most liveable location in Asia and globally, followed by Sydney and Adelaide in Australia.

"Good air quality, solid infrastructure, decent medical facilities, low crime and health risks contributed to Singapore maintaining its top position in the global ranking for quality of living for Asian assignees," ECA regional (Asia) director Lee Quane said in the statement.

The agency's annual location rating system evaluates multiple factors to assess the quality of living in 450 locations worldwide for enabling global firms fix allowances to their employees.

Factors for the assessment include climate, availability of health services, housing and utilities, political tensions and air quality.

In the Indian sub-continent, Pakistani cities like Islamabad and Karachi, ranked at 261 and 269 in the survey, have the region's worst scores for personal security and social-political tensions.

"They are the hardest locations surveyed in Asia for expatriates to adapt to living and working in," Lee said.

While Hong Kong is ranked high as a place for Asian expats to live, the ECA survey revealed that its attractiveness has dropped.

"The unrest in recent months and restrictions on movement of people due to socio-political factors worsened living conditions in Hong Kong," Lee recalled.

Martial law declaration led to a worsening in socio-political scores for ranking locations in Thailand.

While Malaysian locations fell in the global ranking, its capital Kuala Lumpur slipped to 118 from the previous rank of 115.

Shanghai, ranked 110 globally, is rated as China's most liveable city followed by Beijing at 122.

Denmark capital Copenhagen, ranked seventh globally, is the European city that offers the best quality of living for Asian assignees followed by Swiss city of Bern.

In North America, Vancouver at 24 is the most liveable location followed by San Francisco at 40.

Dubai, ranked at 109, is the location in the Gulf region which requires the least adjustment for Asian assignees overall.

For Asian assignees going to Africa, Port Louis, Mauritius, (118) affords the best quality of living followed by Cape Town (133).

Obama Visit

New Delhi: With advance teams working against deadlines to complete all arrangements ahead of the arrival of President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Saturday morning, Indian police and other security and intelligence teams have complained internally of being bulllied by their American counterparts, with some of their demands crossing "all limits."

Sources said that the Secret Service agents Thursday mounted extra pressure on the Indian security agencies to submit them a final report over security arrangements in the capital by evening.

"We have shared our final security report with the Secret Service teams and the final discussion on the issue will be done tomorrow (Friday)," an official, on condition of anonymity, told IANS.

He said we have left no space for any security breach but the satisfaction level of the Secret Service team is "beyond the limits".

"We respect all the delegation but they are treating us like we are for the first time welcoming the US president," the official said, while sharing his feelings with IANS, even though they have been strictly told to stay away from the media.

Well-informed sources said that around 25 Secret Service agents arrived in the capital Jan 13. They have attended several meeting with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials and Delhi Police personnel for the security arrangements for Obama's visit, but their "overbearing" attitude is said to be upsetting junior police officials.

"We have discussed every minute security detail of our arrangements with the Secret Service agents. We are also working on the suggestions they shared with us. But their demands are increasing every time. They don't behave like the security agencies of other countries," an official, close to the security arrangements for the Obama visit, told IANS.

He said: "I have done my 30 years in Delhi Police and made arrangements for several high profile foreign dignitaries. I have good friends in security agencies of other countries, but the US Secret Service agents are not like them. They are very rude and overbearing. It appears that they do not like to give any importance to us."

Another source told IANS that the advance US Secret Service agents are "interfering in all our security arrangements and trying to show themselves as more competent and with more expertise".

Since the US Secret Service team arrived in the capital, they are "demanding new things and trying to point out loopholes in several aspects", he said.

"Now they want to position surveillance satellites to track each and every movement of Obama, and are pressurizing us to cut short the time of Obama's stay in the open air on Rajpath for the Republic Day parade," the official said.

"We are ready to provide surveillance satellite facility on Rajpath on Jan 26 as we are also keen to ensure safe arrangements for the VVIP enclosure where Obama will be seated along with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Despite all our efforts to please them with our arrangements, the Secret Service agents are exhibiting their mistrust in us. Now they have demanded to deploy dozens of their own snipers on the rooftops in the two-kilometre circle of Rajpath along with Delhi Police snipers," he said.

The Indian security agencies are ready to provide a seven-layer security on Rajpath during the two hours that Obama will spend in the open watching the parade.

The US forces will provide close proximity security to Obama while the Special Protection Group (SPG) will be in the second layer, and the third will be covered by the National Security Guard (NSG) commandos, while other three layers will be managed by the Delhi Police.

Another team of over 300 US Secret Service agents will reach Delhi Jan 25 morning along with the US president, another official said.

The US team is staying in the super-luxury ITC Maurya hotel where the US president will be stationed during his three day visit between Jan 25 and Jan 27,

Obama 'Mann ki Baat' USA

U. S. President Barack Obama will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio interaction Mann Ki Baat on All India Radio on January 27.


That there would be a special programme where the two would share their thoughts and respond to questions was announced by Mr. Modi himself via Twitter on Thursday morning.


In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister invited the public to participate in the programme. Questions can also be posted on the Government's 'MyGov' interactive portal, he said. "Eagerly looking forward" to the special programme, Mr. Modi added that this illustrates a special bond between India and the U.S.
