A new Guinness World Record was created for the largest gathering ever to attend the chanting of ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ held on Tenali-Burripalem, Road here on Saturday morning. The marathon chanting was led by Mysore seer Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swami and attended by 1.28 lakh devotees who had converged from various parts of the State.
Tamil Nadu Governor Konijeti Rosaiah, who was the chief guest, presented the certificate of the Guinness Record to the seer at the end of the programme. Representative from Guinness Book of World Records, Fortune Berk was also present. Tenali MLA Alapati Rajendra Prasad said that the massive programme would give fillip to many spiritual programmes in the region.
The response was unprecedented with the organisers expecting more than 1 lakh people. But the numbers swelled by morning. Arrangements were made to accommodate 1.50 lakh people.
The ‘parayanam’ began at 9 a.m. with the Swami rendering ‘slokas’. The district administration made elaborate arrangements for the programme. The School Education Department announced a compensatory holiday for schools. Police personnel led by DSP Sowjanya provided security.
