The BJP ad "killing Anna" # Trending News

Image
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief of the Aam Aadmi Party, tweeted today that the BJP should apologise for "killing Anna" in a campaign ad. The BJP ad mocks Mr Kejriwal for taking the support of the Congress to form government after the last election in December, 2013, and seems to imply that the AAP chief went against the principles of his former mentor Anna Hazare, using a garlanded portrait of the Gandhian. "Nathuram Godse killed Gandhiji on this day in 1948. BJP has killed Anna in its ad today. Shudn't BJP apologise?" Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet. Earlier this week, Anna Hazare said he was "not interested" in talking about Arvind Kejriwal and BJP's presumptive chief minister Kiran Bedi, who are now main rivals in the fight for Delhi. He was responding to NDTV's questions about gathering a new team for his campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after the break-up of "team Anna", which was at the core of his massive an...

World Cup final Super Over

The upcoming cricket World Cup final will be decided by a Super Over in the event of a tie, the sport's governing body announced on Thursday. The move is a return to the playing condition in force at the last World Cup in 2011, abandoning a proposal to have "joint winners", made by the International Cricket Council (ICC) last year. "The ICC Board reinstated the use of a Super Over in the event of a tie in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 final," an ICC release said. The ICC said a Super Over - in which both teams play one over of six balls - was the best way to decide the winner if the sides cannot be separated by the regulation 50 overs each. "This now replicates the arrangements for the World Cup 2011 final and other recent ICC events where a winner will be determined on the day of the final (weather permitting), and a Super Over was the most credible way to separate the two sides," the statement said. Last year, the ICC in its playing conditions for ...

Beginning with Praja Rajyam to the megastar's 150th movie, RGV posted: "I hope chiranjeevi gaaru will direct his 150th film himself because from whatever my interaction with him he knows more than every director, If Chiranjeevi gaaru works wth directors Trivikram Vinayak etc it will be just another etc film but if he does himself it will be the film. I am very sure that Chiranjeevi gaaru has the wisdom nd intelligence to direct his 150th film. If Chiranjeevigaaru doesn't direct his 150 th film himself it will be a bigger mistake than him starting Praja Raajyam Party." RGV added: "Chiranjeevigaaru's 1...

High Alert in Delhi

U.S. and Indian security agencies and intelligence services are mounting an unprecedented operation to keep President Obama safe on foreign soil as he arrives here for a historic visit as "chief guest" of Republic Day. Security is always tight wherever the U.S. president goes, but it appears that measures have been taken to a new level for this trip. Driving it all is the fact that Obama will spend a several more than two hours outdoors Monday on an open-air viewing platform in the center of the city -- a situation Secret Service tries very hard to avoid. The situation is made more complicated because foreign military aircraft will be crisscrossing overhead, tens of thousands of residents are expected to be clogging surrounding streets -- and escape routes, and Pakistani militants have been threating terror.

22 days to go

Image
New Zealand all-rounder and bowling destroyer Nathan Astle has a unique record in his career which is standing tall even today when it comes to world cup history but it is an unwanted one. The record has nothing to do with his batting onslaught, carving bowlers for sixes, or neither it has anything to do with his gentle medium-pace bowling. Interestingly, Astle tops the charts as the player who has registered the most number of ducks in world cups. Out of his 22 innings, Astle has failed to open his account on five occasions – a record which he jointly shares with Pakistan’s Ijaz Ahmed who achieved the feat in 26 innings. It’s an odd one for Astle considering that he holds the record for the fastest double century in Test cricket history – 222 off just 153 deliveries against England – at Christchurch in 2001-02. What is even more fascinating is the fact that both Astle and Ijaz are close to finding a third buddy sharing that record and it will be none other than the South African ...

Singh posed with the statue, flanked by Modi. The BJP chief even tried to shake hands with the statue. Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde  said over a million people were expected at the rally, being held at the BKC grounds and billed as a show of strength by BJP workers. Over 22 trains brought in BJP supporters from across Maharashtra, and the organisers made arrangements to distribute over five lakh food packets, many containing Gujarati snack "thepla". Around 10,000 tea vendors were among those specially invited for the rally. "Somebody from the Samajwadi Party  said Modi was a tea vendor and a tea vendor cannot become the Prime Minister. And Modiji had replied, 'Desh bechne walo se chai bechne wale achche hote hain' (those who sell tea are better than those who sell the country)," Maharashtra BJP unit president Devendra Fadnavis  said. "That created a sense of pride amongst the tea vendors of Mumbai and they contacted us an...

Coaching centers revive Guntur realty

Image
There was a time when Guntur lost its 'educational hub' tag to Hyderabad as the software era started in the late 90's. However, this is the time when tuition centres and coaching classes are coming back to the city with the Chief Minister's announcement of the new capital to come up in Tulluru in the Guntur region. "There are over 150 coaching institutes in Brodipet and another 50 institutions have already leased space in Brodipet, which is a semi-residential area flooded with high-rise structures," informs Anish Sarkar, media executive, Simhans Advertising. Not only have classes queued up here, but the rental values of units close by have also gone up in just three months. "The house which used to be rented for Rs 7,000 per month now demands Rs 12,000-15,000 per month, along with security money of at least three months," says S Kishor, one of the local brokers. AirAsia plane climbed too fast, then disappeared

Image
JAKARTA: An AirAsia plane that crashed last month with 162 people on board was climbing at an abnormally high rate, then plunged and suddenly disappeared from radar, Indonesia's transport minister said Tuesday. Ignasius Jonan told Parliament that radar data showed the Airbus A320 was climbing at about 6,000 feet a minute before it disappeared on Dec. 28. "It is not normal to climb like that, it's very rare for commercial planes, which normally climb just 1,000 to 2,000 feet per minute," he said. "It can only be done by a fighter jet." He said the plane then plunged toward the sea and disappeared from radar. Jonan did not say what caused the plane to climb so rapidly. In their last contact with air-traffic controllers, the pilots of AirAsia Flight 8501 asked to climb from 32,000 feet to 38,000 feet to avoid threatening clouds, but were denied permission because of heavy air traffic. Four minutes later, the plane disappeared. No distress signal was received....
