Your Postdelivery Body

Image
You Look Nine Months Pregnant. Someone told you that you’d deliver and look four months pregnant? If only. Your uterus has gone from about the size of an orange to the size of a watermelon throughout your pregnancy, and it doesn’t deflate quickly like a balloon. For most moms, it takes at least six weeks for it to contract back to its pre-pregnancy size. And according to Ryan C. McDonald, MD, assistant professor of ob-gyn at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, once it shrinks you could still have a pooch due to bloating, constipation, fluid retention and a stretched-out abdominal wall. “If you’re out of maternity clothes at six weeks after delivery, you’re in the lucky minority,” he says. You Can’t Pee. Surprise! You finally make it to the bathroom, sit down and… nothing. “Under normal circumstances when your bladder is full, your brain sends a message via your nerves to empty it,” McDonald explains. But if you’ve had a long labor or a c-section, thos...

5 reasons why Tamil films rocked in 2014

Image
For a generation that grew up in the 80s and 90s, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have been synonymous with films from south India. Later Mohanlal and Mammooty too got noticed. But that was it. And that was then. Cut to 2011. When Tamil superstar Dhanush's Kolaveri Di was uploaded on YouTube, the response it got was staggering. The song was rehashed and sung in Indian languages - it even has a Pakistani version!                     1. YouTube, the leveler - film trailers that blazed their way Rajinikanth has been the poster boy of Tamil cinema world over, not for nothing. His epic drama Kochadaiiyaan has been in public memory ever since the project was announced by his daughter, Soundarya. So when its trailer was launched in March 2014, it wouldn't have come as a surprise...

4.Pratinidhi Cast: Kota Srinivasa Rao, Nara Rohith, Sri Vishnu, Shubhra Aiyappa Director: Prashant Mandava Helmed by Prashant Mandava, the film stars Nara Rohith, who seems to be doing films on serious subjects. Pratinidhi was about corruption and unaccounted money which should logically go to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund rather than to the pockets of a few. It shows one man’s struggle to achieve this. It seemed to be a far-fetched, slightly Utopian concept, but critics acclaimed it for the subject matter. The film had some good dialogues too. Rohith put in a good performance; the film mainly rode on his shoulders. Image: A scene from Pratinidhi Previous                                                   Next
