He said a two-member committee has been formed and it will soon submit a detailed project report to the Centre. Though the Centre's guidelines stipulate that a minimum of 200 acres of land is required for setting up AIIMS, the Union health ministry had approved the site at Mangalagiri though it is spread over 193 acres. Works on the prestigious project will begin shortly, he added.
Srinivas told reporters in Guntur that the AIIMS will come up on the TB sanatorium land. About Rs 1,500 crore will be spent on construction of the hospital. The Centre has already allocated Rs 125 crore for initial works. He said the 500-bed superspecialty hospital will be a boon to the region and it will serve the needs of the entire AP.
He said the state government is also keen on developing a cancer hospital at Chinakakani. He visited the government general hospital (GGH) here, and inaugurated the new operation theatres donated by Rotary Club. Later, Srinivas visited Fever hospital on Amaravati road and inspected the facilities there.
