Milk is considered to be a complete diet, as it contains 18 essential nutrients that are required by the body. It is also believed to reduce the likelihood of osteoporotic fractures. However, a new study published in the British Medical Journal suggests that high intake of milk is associated with higher fracture risk and higher rate of death among both men and women. This brings us to the question: How much milk is good for health? As per the dietary guidelines for Indians, three portions of milk and milk products, with each portion being of 100 gm, is to be included in the balanced diet of adult men and women. Rain plays havoc in Guntur

People trying to cross the Amaravathi-Tadikonda Road, while flood waters in Peekalavagu flows over the causeway on the road snapping communication in Guntur district on Friday. Five persons were killed in separate incidents since Thursday morning as heavy rains continued to batter the district. People living in low lying areas heaved a sigh of relief as the floodwaters receded in most areas. Road link to Amaravathi remained cut off as floodwaters inundated several low lying causeways on the Guntur-Amaravathi Road. Joint Collector Vivek Yadav said two persons -- Mulpuri Srinivasa Rao (35) and Velagala Seethamahalakshmi (55) -- died in separate incidents while the identity of a woman who was washed away at Lam village was yet to be established. Srinivasa Rao, who hailed from Ravela village in Tadikonda mandal, drowned in the Yarra Vagu in Kantheru village while Seethamahalakshmi died of electrocution at Atchampet. ‘Deepam’ to brighten up lives!  CBN introduced the ‘Deepam’ scheme in 1999 to alleviate hardships and reduce health hazards for women due to use of earthen stoves.  The last 10 years of Congress’ rule saw gross neglect of this scheme. With the TDP coming back to power, the scheme is all set to be revived.  Government is getting ready to approve 5 lakh gas connections under the ‘Deepam’ Scheme.  To offer a subsidy of Rs. 1600 per connection, the State Government has allocated Rs. 80.54 Crore in the 2014-15 budget.
