Rain plays havoc in Guntur
People trying to cross the Amaravathi-Tadikonda Road, while flood waters in Peekalavagu flows over the causeway on the road snapping communication in Guntur district on Friday. Five persons were killed in separate incidents since Thursday morning as heavy rains continued to batter the district. People living in low lying areas heaved a sigh of relief as the floodwaters receded in most areas. Road link to Amaravathi remained cut off as floodwaters inundated several low lying causeways on the Guntur-Amaravathi Road. Joint Collector Vivek Yadav said two persons -- Mulpuri Srinivasa Rao (35) and Velagala Seethamahalakshmi (55) -- died in separate incidents while the identity of a woman who was washed away at Lam village was yet to be established. Srinivasa Rao, who hailed from Ravela village in Tadikonda mandal, drowned in the Yarra Vagu in Kantheru village while Seethamahalakshmi died of electrocution at Atchampet.
